      Package Overview

      The teardrop island of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is a magical place for an educational tour. It is a country with an impressive history and an interesting culture. Here school groups can explore ruined cities; extraordinary monuments and rock-top forts; venture into dense jungle hiding ruins running with monkeys and encounter elephants. Visit a working tea plantation, see local fisherman bringing in their morning catch and spend time at an on going conservation project.

      All our school tours to Sri Lanka are accompanied throughout by an English speaking local group leader who will meet you at the airport and be with you until you depart. The group leader will act as your guide, interpreter and general facilitator throughout your trip.

      Itinerary

      Day 1 - Arrival - Colombo . Then Onward Kandy Approx 4 Hours Drive

      Arrival Sri Lanka ( 7 am ) , You will be welcomed by a representative on Arrival and transfer to Colombo.
      Rooms provided at Colombo hotel to unwind and fresh up . Breakfast at the hotel .

      At 1030 am proceed to Kandy .

      En route visit to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Providing a caring home for abandoned and wounded elephants, it is a much loved destination for tourists and locals alike. Here, adults and baby elephants from around Sri Lanka thrive, and a captive breeding program is also proving to be highly successful. The feeding and bathing times are generally the ideal times to visit when you can observe these gentle giants at their best.

      Day 2 - Kandy

      After Breakfast enjoy a city tour of Kandy – the last kingdom of the Sinhalese, taking in the sights of Upper Lake Drive and the Market Square on the way to pay homage to one of the most sacred religious sites in Sri Lanka. The Temple of the Tooth or Dalada Maligawa is believed to house the ‘tooth relic’ of the Lord Buddha. A walk around the town will let you indulge in some souvenir hunting with intricate treasures in wood, copper, silver, brass, ebony, bronze, ceramics, lacquer work, handlooms, batiks, jewelry and reed-ware to choose from.

      Visit to Royal Botanical Gardens, 147 acres of lushness with over 5000 species of trees and plants many of which are rare or endemic; a spice garden and an Orchid house are yours to explore.

      Also you will visit a Gem Museum, Sri Lanka Gem Industry has 70 Of the worlds 200 Various colored stones, The Ceylon Sapphire is a brilliant cornflower or cerulean blue and is considered to be of the highest quality, An 18-Carot blue sapphire was the center of Lady Diana’s and later Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement ring.

      Evening: Round off your day with a cultural show, where the vibrant costumes and pulsating rhythms of traditional dance forms from centuries old rituals will enthrall you.

      Day 3 - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Approx 02 ½ Hrs Drive

      After breakfast head ‘up country’ and the city of Nuwara Eliya, visiting the Ramboda waterfalls and a tea factory along the way. Afternoon The old colonial outpost still referred to as ‘Little England’ Nuwara Eliya certainly lives up to its name. Perched 6200 feet above sea level, the climate too, adds to the illusion of one stepping into an old English town, where neat hedges, quaint cottages and beautiful old buildings stand as serene as they did well over a century ago – the magnificent Grand Hotel presiding over them all. There is, of course, an old golf course as well as horse racing events to complete the picture.

      Bluefield Tea Factory offers a guided tour through the factory for its visitors. During the tour you will see how tea is dried, pressed and produced. You will get to see the various equipment and a guide will explain how they function. You will also visit a tea tasting chamber with different types of teas. There you will get to know the proper way of brewing tea and the various ways to identify the different types of tea.

      Evening city tour with Victoria Park & Gregory Lake.

      Victoria Park : This is one of the country’s most attractive, and best-maintained, town parks. A stroll around its paths, past manicured lawns, is a pleasure. The park comes alive with flowers around March to May, and August and September. It’s also home to quite a number of hill-country bird species, including the Kashmir flycatcher, Indian pitta and grey tit.

      Gergory Lake : Lake Gregory is one of the significant tourist attractions in Nuwara Eliya. It was built by the Governor William Gregory during 1872 – 1877 periods by utilizing the water from the Nanuoya which runs across the town. It is about 91.2 hectares in extent. It was said to be used for water sports and for re-recreational activities during the British rule.

      Day 4 - Nuwara Eliya – Dambulla – Approx 4 Hrs 30 Min Drive

      After Breakfast transfer to Dambulla

      Tucked in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, the humble town of Dambulla is a treasure trove of historical monuments that are definitely worth a visit.

      After lunch, travel through the countryside to the Golden Temple of Dambulla, built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC. Considered to be one of the most impressive cave temples in the world, Dambulla offers 21,527 square feet (2,000 sq m) of vividly painted walls and ceilings. Try to spot the more than 150 sculptures of the Buddha that hide around every corner, and then witness the massive Buddha statue that is carved into the rock.

      The Dambulla cave temple represents one of the oldest sites for Buddhist monasticism, with a history as a pilgrimage site for twenty-two centuries. The massive cave temple complex is unique in Southeast Asia because monks carved the caves out from rock.

      Day 5 - Dambulla – Sigiriya-Dambulla (Approx 30 Minutes Per Way )

      After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya

      Referred by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World this ancient palace and fortress is located in the heart of the island between the towns of Dambulla and Habarane on a massive rocky plateau 370 meters above the sea level.

      Sigiriya rock plateau, formed from magma of an extinct volcano, is 200 meters higher than the surrounding jungles.

      Its view astonishes the visitors with the unique harmony between the nature and human imagination.

      The fortress complex includes remnants of a ruined palace, surrounded by an extensive network of fortifications, vast gardens, ponds, canals, alleys and fountains.

      The surrounding territories of Sigiriya were inhibited for several thousand years.

      Day 6 - Dambulla – Colombo ( 4 Hours Drive )

      After breakfast , check-out from the hotel and proceed to Colombo . En route lunch .

      Arrive Colombo . Visit Cinnamon Gardens . Cinnamon Gardens is Colombo’s most gentrified area. A century ago it was covered in cinnamon plantations. Today it contains elegant tree-lined streets with posh mansions, embassies, stylish cafes and shops, sports grounds and a cluster of museums and galleries.

      Transfer to Airport for flight at 5 pm .
